Find out what apps are using significant energy on your Apple Mac laptop

Since OS X 10.9 Mavericks, Apple has provided a feature that helps you find out what apps are using significant energy on your Mac.

Simply click the battery icon on the menu bar on the top right corner and you’ll see what apps are energy-hungry.

While you may recognize the couple of apps you’re currently using so this notification makes sense, if you see an app you’re not necessarily using intensely and it seems to be eating a lot of your battery’s energy, you may wish to quit it properly to save battery, especially if your Mac is not plugged in.

To quit an app properly on Mac, simply click on the window of the app to make it active then do Command + Q on your keyboard to quit it.

Clicking the red bubble on the top left corner of the window usually only closes the window itself but doesn’t quit the app altogether.

Have you tried this feature? Any surprises on apps that use the most energy? Let us know in the comments below.
